On the website for Saint Joseph Cupertino (SJC) Province, Friar Raphael Zwolenkiewicz offers a great explanation of Triduum, which begins with the Holy Thursday Mass of the Lord’s Supper and concludes with the renewal of the Alleluia near the end of Vigil of Easter on the night of Holy Saturday.
The Celebrations of the Sacred Triduum are rich with symbolism and flow from one to another in a seamless way. While it may appear as if these liturgies are separate and distinct, they are actually intended to be one continuous celebration that commemorates the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus. Plan to attend the entire Triduum.
Friar Wayne Hellmann writes in a reflection on Triduum:
It is important to remember that this three-day sacred celebration is not a commemoration. It is rather one single liturgy: actually to share in the ongoing here and now accomplishment of our salvation.
