…for The Poor
"The brothers rejoice to live among the poor and powerless,
the beggars by the
wayside."
–St. Francis of Assisi, Rule of 1221
Conventuals cry out alongside the marginalized and lepers of society. Francis desired not merely to minister to the poor, but to dwell among them; he didn’t seek simply to serve the outcast, but to become one of them. He called his Order the friars minor: the “lesser brothers.” Friars strive to take up little space in the world, to take the lower place, and to identify with those living on the margins.
