Pilgrims Gather Again in Carey

Thousands return to honor the Blessed Mother

After two years of virus-related remote worship, the pilgrimage and Annual Novena to Our Lady of Consolation took place beginning on August 6 at the Basilica and National Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey, Ohio. Many Conventual Franciscan Friars journeyed to Carey to help minister to the thousands of pilgrims gathered for the celebration. Throughout the days there were opportunities for Mass and the Sacrament of Reconciliation. In the evenings, the Upper Basilica filled with pilgrims as they listened to a meditation and offered prayers of hope and healing.

On Sunday evening, August 14, a candlelight procession followed the statue of Our Lady of Consolation to Shrine Park for an outdoor Vigil Mass for the Feast of the Assumption of Mary into Heaven. The Most Reverend John Stowe OFM Conv., Bishop of Lexington, led the Rosary Procession and presided at Mass.
