Mauro Cardinal Gambetti, in his mid-50s, is one of the youngest cardinals in the Church. He is also the first Conventual Franciscan to be created a cardinal in the last 160 years. (The previous was Antonio Maria Panebianco in 1861.) On November 4, Pope Francis appointed Cardinal Gambetti as a member of the Pontifical Commission for the Vatican Holy City State. This commission is the legislative body of Vatican City.
