Lent is a special season of preparation, a sign of how “creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the children of God.” Here are some resources as you continue on your Lenten journey.
An Ecological Way of the Cross
The Way of the Cross can be traced to St. Francis of Assisi, who lived at a time when Christian pilgrims could not travel safely to the Holy Land. Francis brought the experience of the Holy Land home, as we bring the Way of the Cross home to our local place of natural beauty. Reflecting on the sufferings of Jesus at each station, we raise the Cross of Christ to remind us that our sister, Mother Earth—our common home—belongs to God, and we ask for strength and unity to care for God’s creation. Here’s a booklet that offers us a timely way of the cross which invites us to give new meaning and reflection on this traditional experience.
Lent & Technology
Here are six brief videos reflecting on ways technology might lead us into behaviors that aren’t so good for us – doomscrolling, impulse buying, binge watching, etc. Friar Manny provides some ideas on how to change these behaviors and in some instances turn a ‘vice’ into a ‘virtue.’
Gospel Passages for Lent (& How to Read Scripture)
Here are two podcast episodes. Listen first to Friar Jude Winkler, who gives us some ideas on how to make reading Scripture a habit. Then, listen to Friar Solanus Mary as he talks about some of the early passages in the Golspels that detail events in Jesus’ life that anticipate His Passion. These readings are great for Lenten meditations…
