Saint Maximilian Kolbe

“The most deadly poison of our time is indifference. Let us strive, therefore, to praise Him (God) to the greatest extent of our powers.”

August 14 is the Feast Day for Saint Maximilian Kolbe OFM Conv. – a Polish Conventual Franciscan Friar who volunteered to die in place of a stranger in the German death camp of Auschwitz. Kolbe was canonized in 1982 by St. Pope John Paul II who declared Saint Maximilian Kolbe to be a Martyr of Charity.

“For Jesus Christ, I am prepared to suffer still more.”

The Kolbe/Holocaust exhibit at the Shrine of St. Maximilian Kolbe at Marytown in Libertyville, Illinois, is found in the basement, placing us in the darkness of this history. The exhibit shows the heroic sacrifice by Franciscan St. Maximilian Kolbe as one among millions of stories of people imprisoned and killed under the Nazi regime during WWII. Join Friar Benedict La Volpe for a brief introduction to the exhibit.

“Never be afraid of loving the Blessed Virgin too much. You can never love her more than Jesus did.”

Friar Solanus Mary talks about the life of Saint Maximilian Kolbe and the saint’s devotion to Mary in this podcast episode. The recording was produced by Christian Media Trust for South East Radio – both located in Wexford, Ireland.
