On September 28, 2025, the community gathered to celebrate the completion of phase two of the Newman Catholic Center at UNC Chapel Hill. Friar Michael Heine, Minister Provincial for the Province of Our Lady of the Angels, gave the homily and helped bless the project.
Pastor Friar Tim Kublicki described some of the renovations: “The activity center is now accessible to students and parishioners with mobility challenges. The outdoor patio is graded for wheelchair access and decorated with a seating wall for reflection. The main hall has been raised to a uniform level and provided with comfortable meeting-style seating to allow for greater flexibility.”
Phase three is now underway. It will replace the chairs in the church with pews and is scheduled to be completed next year.
It is of special note that the ambo and the Jerusalem Cross in the hall at UNC Newman were created by Friar Peter Tremblay, who serves currently as campus minister at Elon University.
