Little Portion Farm Reaches Milestone

Since the beginning of Little Portion Farm in 2019, they've now grown, harvested, and donated more than 100,000 pounds of food!

Little Portion Farm is a ministry of the Franciscan Friars Conventual focused on providing fresh food to those in need while using sustainable farming methods to restore the health of our land. The 3-acre farm functions as an “agro-ecosystem,” with a diversity of plants and habitats to support the life of this “little portion” of creation. As the food harvested from the farm is donated to the Franciscan Center in Baltimore, the overarching mission of this ministry is, using the words of Pope Francis, to “hear both the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor.” Little Portion Farm

Learn more about Little Portion Farm and join us for the fifth annual Wine at the Shrine on Saturday, October 12. Wine at the Shrine benefits Little Portion Farm and the Franciscan Center of Baltimore. It’s an outdoor celebration with beer and wine tasting, local food trucks, live music, activities for children, hayrides, and more.

In 2023, the transfer took place of the Franciscan Center of Baltimore from the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi to the Province of Our Lady of the Angels. The province is now the sponsor of the center which offers a continuum of care that includes food, clothing, emergency services, counseling, culinary and technology training to help clients become as self-sufficient as possible. Food grown at Little Portion Farm in Ellicott City, another ministry of the friars, is sent to the Franciscan Center to feed the poorest of the poor in Baltimore.
