On January 1, 2026, Pope Leo XIV led the recitation of the Angelus from the window of the Apostolic Palace in the Vatican. In his message he mentioned that this year is the 800th anniversary of the death of St. Francis of Assisi. He extended the blessing that St. Francis took from Scripture:
“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you, and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you, and give you peace.”
Through this, the Pope held up St. Francis as a model of peace, mercy, and spiritual relevance in today’s world.
