Feast of the Dedication of the Lateran Basilica

Feast of the Dedication of the Lateran Basilica

November 9

St. John Lateran is the oldest of the major basilicas and the cathedral of Rome. It was in this church that St. Francis of Assisi and his early companions received the blessing of Pope Innocent III to: “Live the Gospel of Jesus Christ”, but only after the Pope had a dream of Francis’ upholding this basilica, preventing it from falling into ruin.

Listen to the Franciscan story of St. John Lateran in our Jubilee of Hope Pilgrimage available on The Shell. The pilgrimage features the Major Basilicas in Rome – St. John Lateran, St. Peter, St. Paul, and St. Mary Major. This free app is available in the Apple Store and Google Play Store.
