"Blessed are those who endure in peace…"
–St. Francis of Assisi, Canticle of the Creatures
Conventuals preach a message of the peace that comes from solidarity.
Francis taught his brothers to greet those they encountered with the wish for
and summons to peace. Captured poignantly in the legend of the Wolf of
Gubbio, the early Franciscans demonstrated the courage to try
unconventional approaches to bring peace and hope into situations wherein
others saw only violence and despair. Friars today continue this ministry of
peacebuilding.
